Summer Camp Registration Now Open!
FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is a program designed to introduce middle and high school students from 7th through 12 grade to the world of robotics and engineering. FTC students have the opportunity to design, build, operate, and code a new robot every year. Teams compete at local and regional events, and the season culminates in a World Championship where teams from around the world come together to showcase their robots and compete for awards.
Our FTC teams are given a unique opportunity to develop their technical skills and gain real-world experience. Students get hands-on practice with engineering concepts such as mechanics, electronics, programming, and control systems, with guidance and support from our adult and student mentors. FTC has something for everyone, so there are also plenty of opportunities to develop other skills including, teamwork, strategy, public speaking, outreach, and marketing.
Find details and our team application below. Not sure if FTC is a good fit for your student? Feel free to schedule a visit to our workshop to learn more.

McKinney STEAM Academy (MSA) also offers off season "Intro To" workshops and summer camps. FIRST Tech Challenge registration gets your student early access to sign ups.
Most teams meet 1-2 times a week. Meetings are held at the McKinney STEAM Academy and usually last 2 hours. We encourage student drop off.
Students attend 4 competitions per season. Competitions are usually located within a 30 minute drive of our facility. They are usually held on Saturday.
Teams that do not advance to Championships can take this season to relax.
Teams that advance to the Championships often meet more frequently during February to polish their robot and presentations for the Championship.
